Yeah you need a completely open mind and convince yourself this is not phantom and it's wonderful. Convincing myself that it's not Phantom will be very hard... There's a masked man, who obsesses over a curly haired woman after all. XD Well, I meant not a continuation of ALW's original.

I like to think it's a continuation in like an alternate universe/offshoot timeline sort of way, just because you kind of have to know the original ALW musical if you want to get a full understanding as to what is going on.

In Italy, LND DVD is available. It is the edition with Ramin Karimloo and celia graham, but I have no intention to buy it. Funny thing: 25th anniversary cd and dvd are available, but not the original soundtrack. Ah ah. DAMNED ITALIANS

So... I don't think I really wanna see it... I thought the casting was phenomenal, but sadly that's not enough to save it from a faulty story and bad lyrics. I hate/love Raoul in it. It breaks my heart when he sings "Why Does She Love Me". As a matter of fact, the only scene I TRULY like is that + Devil Take the Hindmost. So very testosterone-filled and tense. I agree, the Phantom could do with a bit less crying during some scenes. His and Christine's reactions to some things are so over-dramatic it's comical. ALW-Christine always comes off to me as a flimsy, weak-willed character so that was no surprise. Meg's part was done very well up to the very end. A couple things about the (SPOILER) death/gunshot scene seemed rushed and haphazard. All-in-all, I'm glad I watched it. I wouldn't buy it. And it was embarrassing to watch at certain points (Beneath a Moonless Sky).

I'm going to buy it, because I think it's hilarious. And I agree with all the things you said, Wulphe, but, my favourite scene was Beauty Underneath. Guilty pleasure, but it's true.
And... Was anynone else waiting for Erik to turn into a vampire??

It's like you say, if you don't compare it to the original, it's. . it's alright. I think LND is great in its own way, if a bit cliched.
The Aussie cast, however, I do not like. More because of the Erik actor than the rest of the cast. He sort of...frightens me. Which the phantom should do I suppose, but it's more the sort of Oh-god-he-looks-like-he's-going-to-eat-a-baby type of frighting than the death's-head sort of frightening.

Do I really want to support this... musical by spending money on it?
I DO like the pedo undertones in Beauty underneath... I am a sick puppy. Anyway, one question: Most pictures I saw made Gustave blonde... Christine had dark hair... Phantom too, because I don't think he'd wear a wig not fitting his haircolour (And Leroux had him have dark hair too blaaaaaa) and RAOUL is mostly blonde... So? Why must he be Erik'S son? How can he be Erik's son? Make up department, PAY ATTENTION!

And... Was anynone else waiting for Erik to turn into a vampire?? I'm glad I'm not the only one who got that vibe. The whole time I kept thinking the guy who plays Erik would make a nice, old-movie style Dracula. His voice really is perfect for Erik though, imo. He can do the booming, threatening baritone, as well as the soft tenor falsetto, just like the book describes. He was also inexplicably creepy (as nessundorma pointed out). I like that in an "Erik". Actually, it's possible Christine and Erik could have a blond child IFF (if and only if) they're both heterozygous for that allele. MINI SIMPLIFIED GENETICS LESSON: Blond is "bb", dark hair can be "BB" or "Bb", meaning dark hair is dominant and blond is recessive so dark hair expresses itself over blond. If Christine and Erik are both "Bb" (heterozygous), then they could have a child with blond hair with a 25% chance. See? BUT that's only if that is in fact their genetic makeup. If one of the two are BB, it would be impossible to have a blond child. Also, if Christine is BB and Raoul is bb (which he certainly is being that he's blond), then they could only have dark-haired babies as well! This also only counts for the ALW Christine. In the book she's blond too, increasing the likelihood of ErikXChristine's child being blond and GUARANTEEING that RaoulXChristine's child would be blond. I love genetics... I should also mention that children born with blond hair can also become dark-haired as they age. And the main reason they think Gustave is Erik's son is because he's musically talented... which isn't a good argument.

Well, Christine really has no talent to speak of, so Gustave MUST BE Erik's son! *sarcasm* I shall call you "maestro" from now on. Teach me some more, please? Yeah.. it's not like Christine's father played violin or anything, and why would a retired opera star EVER encourage her son to develop musical talent? Hmm? Oh, yes. Please do call me maestra (lol! j/k)... I could go on all day. Like, did you know hair color is actually controlled by more than 1 allele? They don't have it down to an *exact* science yet, but it seems blond/dark is one trait, while red/not red is a completely separate trait! For instance, I have blond hair, which means I have "bb" for "blond", and "RR" or "Rr" for "not red". Which is why bright-red heads are so rare. They HAVE to be bbrr (all recessive). Also, auburn hair would be Bb/BB+rr. Pretty cool, huh? Redheads aren't freaks of nature, just abnormally rare! Also, iff is logic/math language, which I thoroughly enjoy. It's particularly useful when taking notes. There are just so many useful symbols that say so much despite being so little. I'm an elementary school tutor, but I WANT to teach high school/college some day! If you want to know more, I'll have to start a new thread cause there's way too much potential for me to go out of control here. As a matter of fact, I think I already did... *blush* >.<

Ha!! I'm so glad you brought the genetics into this because that was EXACTLY what I was thinking when I read the posting asking about it. I was like "it IS possible!!!"
And yes, why can't he have gotten his talent from his mother?? I mean, wasn't the entire reason Erik took Christine into his care was because she had potential in her voice therefore meaning she had talent? No, of course not. Only Erik has talent, forgive me.
Also, I too liked the creep factor in Erik. I mean, he's not really normal... At all. So he could totally come off as creepy.
Off topic, while writing this I'm listing to ALW OLC, final liao scene, and Steve Barton really had a nice voice. I don't why it's striking me at this moment.
