No RED DEATH??? ONLY ONE LITTLE KISS??? SHE SITS ON HIS BED THE WHOLE TIME???
I am upset. But alas, there are always changes made to everything. I suppose I will continue to support this until they totally ruin Phantom. Then I will hunt down ALW and kill him.
But I must say, why no unmasking scene? If he just goes off on her for happening to wake up while he was stupid enough to be without his mask with the girl in the house then I'd leave him too.

Having never seen the live show, I can safely say that I don't want to see the UK tour much according to that review. It sort of took out all of the scenes I wanted to see live. But i'm... ...totally distracted because I'm listening to the 25th anniversary recording and Buquet just got pwned. I'm not sure whether to laugh insanely, cry, run screaming, or explode. And it's just the soundtrack!!!! ...but anyway, I can understand the lack of red death, since that costume is notoriously dangerous for the actors. But the lair scenes - what the heck? NO. Especially the lack of an unmasking. I mean, honestly now.

The unmasking is everything in this play. The story means nothing without the unmasking. Makes me mad. Hopefully they'll change some things, that happens. They revamp stuff and as the show progresses they change a few things. And I can see the red death being dangerous, but then redesign it don't remove it!!!

What bothers me more is that they even take out any form of a menacing entrance, really for all of the scenes he makes one. I would demand either a menacing entrance of a red death, if they can't have both. AND ADD AN UNMASKING, GOSH DARN IT!!!! IM IN A RAGE!!!!!!!

Remember they hate for LND made them change things so if this new...redo of Phantom isn't well excepted perhaps they'll change it again. Seems they already have changed a few times. Almost like they don't know what they're going for. Funny, would be fine if they just freaking left it alone!!!!

I'm all for trying new things, but I sincerely doubt this is going to work. The original version had all of these fantastic, dynamic things which should BY NO MEANS be taken out.
I can understand that some of these choices were made were made in order to make the show easier and more cost effective to put on, but the blocking changes are a real turn-off.

But is unmasking Erik really that expensive?

But is unmasking Erik really that expensive? That's not what I said. I said some of the changes were made for monetary reasons; I never implied the removal of the unmasking scene was one of them. And I wholeheartedly agree that that was a stupid idea, as were most of the blocking changes, it seems.

Ok. When I read the review, I thought " oh, this is surely a joke. Merely a joke. Absolutely a joke." And then, when my heart and my soul and my mind finally accepted the truth, I was kind of "YOU STUPID bloomin' frying-pan OF AN ALW! NOW I'M GOING TO FINISH YOU WITH MY SKULL CANE!!!!!" The unmasking scene is the most dramatic and has a deep connection with the book... So why ruin it?! I truly hope these changes won't be applied to the original production. If they do, I will always have my 25th anniversary DVD under my pillow and the memory of the original Phantom inside my heart.

Who goes to a musical theater if they can buy the DVD for the half prize and watch it again and again and again. (Stupid line of thoughs, I'd always prefere to go to the theater!!!) Now they think they'll have to change it so people keep coming... Idiots. O.o
