How would you describe the Phantom's voice? And who's voice would ultimately come the closest to him? It doesn't have to be just musical theater stars but opera stars, pop stars, the guy you know around the corner who always sings as he puts out the trash...etc.
And link some videos if you would like! Then we can share the amazing voices with everyone!

Okay... I really love Michael Crawfords voice but... well... My favourite Phantom voice belongs to a woman XD Wao Yoka. She played the Phantom in Japan in 2004 and is currently starring as Dracula in the japanes version of Wildhorn's Dracula: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMhoB3xsf68I just love that her voice is somewhat between man and woman and that you can really forget that she's not a man and, well I just love the sound and... *goes on rambling*

She can get really into those low notes with a really rich fullness that is difficult for women in general. You do forget from the moment you see her that she's a woman. Her voice and the costuming and the acting all take part in helping you just forget about her gender and you believe that she is a man. That was really interesting, I didn't even know that Japan had put on its own Phantom musical.

That was really interesting, I didn't even know that Japan had put on its own Phantom musical. The takarazuka revue did the Yeston & Kopit musical in 2004, 2006 and 2011. I thing Webber wouldn't want HIS Phantom to be played by women only XD Besides Takarazuka always adds dancing parts and makes the male main character more stand out. Works for Phantom, if you ask me.

I see! Yeah, I'm not sure if ALW would like his version of the Phantom to be played by a woman...but it works in the Japanese version. Haha.

My favorite voice I think I ever heard for the Erik was for the Big Finish radio version. It was EXACTLY how I would imagine his voice to be! I only heard a few scenes with the phantomreviewer but its the best! ^.^ www.youtube.com/watch?v=tO0SbnWAW6sskip to 3:18 for the actor of Erik.

I can tell that it can be really soft and pleasant but it can also be really menacing if he wanted to. I should listen to some of his actual scenes!

But I hear a roughness in his voice that doesn't really work for me... Hard to explain....

I totally just ordered it. I did.
Okay. Spazzing over.
You know something? I have never heard a voice that I thought screamed "Erik." I've heard voices that would WORK for Erik (coughJeremyIronscough...coughRichardEGrantcough), but I've never heard one that IS Erik. And I've never heard a singing voice that sounds like Erik's. I've heard men who are brilliant singers, but just not anyone who gave me "Erik chills." You know what I mean?
I wonder if it's even possible to sound that beautiful. Maybe that's the problem. We have such high expectations that no one quite measures up.

It can hypnotize, it can be thrown, I feel like he can mimic anyone he wants to, it has amazing range...it's difficult to find anyone even close to how he would sound. And I feel like everyone's version of his voice is so different. How others think he should sound is different from how I think he should sound. But it's fun to hear what everyone else's "Erik voice" is.

I'm probably the only one in the world that thinks this. But, for me, Liam Neeson has the perfect speaking voice for Erik. If I had any idea if the man could sing, all the more perfect!!

Oooohh Liam Neeson. I love his voice. You know when I read The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe I read Aslan in Liam Neeson's voice. I don't know if he's quite my perfect version of Erik but I do love love love his voice.
