I hate to make my first post a bubble burster, but I have a profound dislike for this show. I have a tumblr (mostly to feed my PotO, Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey obsessions) but it seems like everyone I follow is obsessed with Once Upon A Time.
So I tried watching it. Actually, I watched the very first episode when it came out and thought, "meh." I wasn't that impressed. But after the famous "Rumbelle" episode, my dashboard exploded and I thought I might be missing out on something good. I watched that episode, and a few more from this half of the season.
And I am just tremendously disappointed and underwhelmed. The premise is cool, but the dialogue is awkward, forced and...lackluster. It seems like the only themes within the storylines revolve around romance...not even romance, just "let's hold up these two characters together and see if it works."
Romance is great. It's integral to a lot of fairytales. But why does everything have to be about match making? I was skeptical with the Rumbelle storyline and then by the time Grumpy was falling in love with a random fairy, I just freaking lost it. Not everyone needs to be neatly paired up with someone else. It's boring and tedious. Characters need to go on journeys that don't involve finding lost love or finding love at all. It seems like every episode is getting redundant.
I don't know. Tell me it's not just me. Please.

I have a friend that's into it, never saw it myself though. Can't say I'm too keen on it either. But no, I don't like stuff that just throws people together for the heck of it and I'm all about dialogue, haha. But I have no real opinion as I have never seen it for myself.

I started to watch it but then got disinterested. The romance thing did trip me up a bit considering everyone was hooking up with everyone...and it got a bit ridiculous. I thought some of the addition of the characters like the Genie could have been interesting but then...they all end up dying or something one way or another. They could have done a lot with this show. It could have been really interesting because I love fairytale retellings. But it just gets all sorts of crazy now.
