I'm going to continue to beat this dead horse, k all??? Now, on the topic of 'oh, it's a stand-alone piece, not a sequel, durr hurr' Mine- and everyone else's -thoughts on that are 'well, it bloody well sounds like a sequel to me!!!(speaking of beating a dead horse)' I personally like to pretend he wasn't as stupid as that statement made him sound and he meant that it had a very different feel to it than the original and if you didn't like it, then you didn't have to have anything to do with it! (tada!!!) What he didn't count for, though, is how much fun it is to pick apart all the horrible things about this musical and showcase them, like the idiocy of making a statement like 'its not a sequel' Just to pose the question, what specifically did you think was the worst thing about the sequel? Because me, I 100% hated 'Once Upon Another Time' (the song would be boring even to 5-year-olds in a Disney movie) I got a little lost here. To whom are you referring when you say "he/him"? Andrew Lloyd Webber? As far as I can tell, there are no "he"s posting in this topic, so I'm a little confused. I think the worst thing about the sequel was Erik's half-ass excuse for why he left Christine in Beneath a Moonless Sky. "Ashamed of what I was, afraid to see you eyes." ... So... he leaves her there? Alone? Right... OH! I also hate Erik writing bad Vaudeville shows. I can see how they came up with that, but UGH! It hurts my brain. And what's with that giant mechanical gorilla! I know Erik has a thing for being dramatic, but that's just GAUDY! Kinda cool, but not something I think of when I think "Phantom".

Erik is a MUSICAL GENIOUS!! Even the "don juan" part in PotO was... hard to except for me, because some parts just sound as if someone with only medicore talent wrote them. Mind me, I love point of no return. He would write music that... well... "groupeargasm" would be a word for what we would experience every night if HE would write music for us to hear... I think he'd rather kill himself than writing bad vaudeville shows.

Who is to say that he didn't just write it to amuse stupid people that weren't worthy or his using his true talent for since they wouldn't appreciate it anyway? No ever said that Erik couldn't have fun. It's just twisted.

If it included way too much cotton candy and no sleep...who knows what that man is capable of. XD but I agree it's a stretch.

Do I want to know what Erik would be capable of if he was on a sugar high and overtired? ... Yes, I do XD

No ever said that Erik couldn't have fun. It's just twisted. I could buy into that explanation if ALW presented it in that context. Unfortunately, ALW seems to say Erik is writing cheap vaudeville because he can't put anything good to paper without Christine. Plus, if Erik is creating this on purpose just to mess with people, I feel even worse for Meg, who has to perform things like Bathing Beauty. That would mean he could have done something better for her, but he'd rather torture her while he's rofl-ing in the other room. -- not bad for Leroux/Kay Erik, but ALW Erik? I donno...

I guess this is me beating a dead horse now...but I totally agree with everyone saying Erik would rather skewer his eardrums with a sharp pointy stick than ever write and premiere in front of the public something so bad. Because he's so obsessed with beauty, you would think that he would never let something like that get out if it even did come from him. The thing about him is that his appearance may be ugly but all he creates is beautiful or masterfully crafted. So to write cheap Vaudeville shows just urgghhh like spits in the face of that aspect of him. I also thought the music was eh okay for LND but it wasn't omg AMAZING like the original. I didn't feel excited about it.

Everything in this plot repulses me. I also looked at some pictures and listened to some music and... well... I want that shiny necklace *.*

Poor horse, indeed. Good thing it's already dead, or it might mind our ceaseless bludgeoning. XD
I just read through the plot again, trying to find a specific line for a joke. It is still painful to read, even after I've watched, and enjoyed the performance. All I can tell you is the acting counts. I'm sure I'd hate to read the script for the Robert Englund movie too, but when I watch it I like it... even with all the cheesy lines.
To me LND is just another shade of gray, where Leroux is white and the fan-made movie Angel of Music is black as pitch. It may be a darker shade than many other adaptations, but I really don't think it deserves the critical abuse it's received, largely from people who haven't actually seen it. It's a little sad to me that many people may never get the choice to see it even if they wanted to because of the smear campaign against it, but oh well. Que sera, sera.
Maybe ALW will sit down, think about what he's done, and give us a proper rewrite some day.

Maybe ALW will sit down, think about what he's done, and give us a proper rewrite some day. I was under the impression that he already did that and the rewrite is what has become popular in Austraila. I could be mistaken. I have to admit that everything I hear about it tends to make me twitch and want to bang my head on something but I am not beyond wanting to see it. Whether this is because I want to give it a real chance or because it's associated with Phantom, I'm not entirely sure. But I still want to see it.
