So what did you think of the sequel to Phantom?
I never saw it, only heard snippets of the soundtrack but I wasn't a huge fan of the plot. Coney Island...really?

I've heard about it and know the plot, but don't have a need to see it. The thought of Erik at Coney Island just sends shivers up my back. It's just not believable.

I never saw it and I really don't have any desire to do so. After what I heard I'd kill myself afterwards >.< Luckily the chances of LND to come to Germany are really slim, for I DO hope, that it isn't a "hit" or whatever you call it.

i actually ..... love it. *rant mode below*
well, i mean, obviously it pales in comparison to the original, and some of the score sounds like i composed it (that is in no way a good thing) but it has a wonderfully mysterious and phantom-y feel to it. I've heard all of the jokes about it many times, but it has good moments. also, don't use the soundtrack to base assumptions on. (specially NOT beauty underneath) so much of it was changed (for the better, i think) it was one of those times when i just learned to stop complaining, give in, and listen to 'till i hear you sing' on a loop for an hour. There are hidden glimmers beneath all the crap. there is beauty underneath, and you have to look for it. and ignore 'bathing beauty' please?
i have one more thing to say. "In 2007, it was announced [producton] would be delayed, because Lloyd Webber's six-month-old kitten Otto, a rare-breed Turkish Van, climbed onto Lloyd Webber's Clavinova digital piano and managed to delete the entire score." WINCAT IS HERE. ;D

Phantom is so awesome because you are waiting for that one kiss all the time. You KNOW it comes. I heard it on the soundtrack before I even saw the musical and NOW we should believe they had SEX? WHEN??? But what a boring world would it be, if we would all always like the same things, right? ^.^

There's a few songs from LND that I actually really like. Most of the lyrics are a let down though, and ALW's PotO had better writers in that department. Following straight from the first musical, I didn't think it was that off, character-wise. My biggest complaint is Erik opening a freak-show, when in ALW's world, he was tortured in such a show. My least favorite song was "We Totally Had Sex", aka Beneath a Moonless Sky (Bathing Beauty is supposed to be terrible, that's the whole point they're trying to make). Actually *watching* the show is 1,000% better than just listening to the CD's. Many of the scenes I thought I would hate were actually performed so well I found them touching. I know there's a ton of critics out there, but in comparison to other HORRIBLE PotO adaptations I've seen (all non-ALW/Yeston-Kopit musicals), it's really not bad at all. And the actual show is dazzling. Serious eye-candy. And Meg.. her entire character broke my heart. Even Raoul, when he's sitting at the bar singing about how terrible he feels at the husband he's become... it's touching. If you want to see a fairly good clip, here's the scene from The Beauty Underneath. I give them kudos on their Phantom face makeup. SO much better than that crappy 2004 movie.

I think what I didn't like about the score was this odd mixture of rock and classical music to the point where I wasn't sure what the music was supposed to be. I mean I know ALW likes rock music because Starlight Express and Jesus Christ Superstar had rock themes and even in PotO he put in some electric guitar riffs which I thought were done well but LND takes the score to a weird place. Which given the setting I guess makes more sense. But it's odd when the score background score is more carnival-y and most of the songs are more classical. And he's placed all of Christine's parts way up in the stratosphere to the point where it is obviously more operatic which is more of the classical influence and yet really puts a rock edge inbetween and in some of the songs. And I really really like classical music...so the addition of rock threw me off a bit.

I feel like I really need to see it to have an honest opinion but it doesnt look like it's coming to the states anytime soon. That being said, I really think Tim Burton should use "Beauty Underneath" in something because then it would be awesome.

Personally, I don't like LND. I don't like the plot nor the score. I don't like Erik's fluffy shirt. I don't like Gustave. I don't like that OUR FOP became a DRUNK FOP. I don't like the sex between Erik and Christine: ok, just imagine that. Erik left Christine go, he decided to move to America (CONNEY ISLAND?! WHO THE BLOODY HELL DOESN'T KNOW THAT IN NY THERE'S BROADWAY??!), he came to Christine's room before his departure (and before her wedding, too), THEY. HAD. SEX. Oh, come on. Erik is a gentleman. He left Christine, 'cause he was aware he couldn't make her happy. And now...He changed his mind? And after the act, he left?! Because he was ASHAMED?! "And when it was done, before the sun could rise ashamed of what I was afraid to see your eyes. I stood while you slept and whispered a goodbye. And slipped into the dark beneath a moonless sky." OH, PLEASE!

And Muririn would be the art designer XD

OH, PLEASE! I understand where you're coming from. 2 months ago, I felt the exact same way. After watching the updated show, my opinion changed though, much to my surprise. It really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be just from reading the plot and listening to the score. The acting really counts, and the updates were much needed. There's a few things I want to clarify in your post though, so as to prevent the spread of more misinformation against this musical. 1. They get rid of Erik's fluffy shirt (thank god) 2. Erik doesn't come to Christine, Christine seeks him out the night before her wedding, and wants to stay with him. I agree HIM leaving her afterwards does piss me off. It's difficult to imagine him doing that. And, just some of my opinion to wrap it up, I kinda liked Raoul, and I can even understand how he got to that position. Imagine, your wife is impassioned by music, but you just can't meet her on that level. Unknown to you, she would rather be with her maestro, but I'm sure that sentiment comes out in subtle ways. That can lead to problems in a marriage, and if he's feeling those problems, as a spoiled upper-class fop, it's not a far stretch to see him turn to the bottle. All of his sweetness isn't even gone, it's just been crushed by a dark reality, and it really pains him. Remember, 10 years has passed, and Christine's heart didn't really belong to him that whole time. She probably only seemed truly happy when she was singing. That sucks.

It's difficult to imagine him doing that. O.o Makes it even worse for me. She cheats on Raoul (Being with Erik the night before her wedding) AND Erik (Leaving him after having sex once to marry someone else) in one night??? And... HOW can she even tell that the boy is Eriks son then? I mean, Raoul wouldn't understand if she refused him on their wedding night and... musical talent could be hers.
