I have to admit, for some reason I feel the need to read anything Phantom related (okay, almost anything. Why, tell me WHY is there Phantom erotica??). So I've read the original, I've read Kay's. I've also read The Phantom of Manhattan (which I don't recommend... and no, that's not because it's like Love Never Dies) and An Wallace's Letter's to Erik (which is a good read if you don't mind fluff and a story that doesn't entirely make sense).
I have a list of books I still want to check out. Every month or so I have to find a new book just for chackles.
Any "fiction" you've read lately or not so recently that you enjoyed or hated?

Lemme just reference my bookshelf XD No Return by J.C. Sillesen is an interesting modern take on the tale. It's slightly fluffy, but pretty good. Carlotta gets f-ed over in that one. WHOOO boy!

Here's another series, soon to be complete: www.chansondelange.com/I actually read the Colette Gale novel (Unmasqued.. the "erotic" one) 1. because I was curious, as a few people had left good reviews of it, 2. because I'm a completion-ist, and I feel compelled to read/watch/listen to EVERY version of Phantom I can get my hands on (even if it means watching Dario Argento and Phantom of the Ritz) and 3. because my friend owned the book, so I didn't have to spend money. XD It... was... HORRIBLE! I knew it would be erotic, duh, but the entire experience was a whirlwind of "WTF did they do to the characters/story?!" I guess I expected more of a normal, classy rated-M story, not a S&M massacre. It had very little to do with any version of PotO I've seen so far. I'm sorry, but I find it really hard to accept that Erik is the half-brother of Raoul, and that Raoul would let the sadistic Philippe torture Christine. I've read better rated-M stories on FF.net! At least those stories seem to make sense. To my horror, Gale's also written a similarly styled book based on The Count of Monte Cristo! Another story I love, but thank god I don't feel like I have to read every version. DISCLAIMER: I'm sorry if you like Colette Gale's book, as my friend (who I now cast suspicious glances at) does. This was my reaction. I could have accepted the copious amounts of erotica, if the story followed the characters, so it's not that I'm a prude. Lol.

Which writer claims their work to be epic??? Or am I misunderstanding something? I read the excerpt and.. well. Honestly, I don't care to read more. Not my writingstyle, I guess...

I think she means "epic" as in being a composition similar to an epic tale is style; "noting or pertaining to a long poetic composition, usually centered upon a hero, in which a series of great achievements or events is narrated in elevated style"
Not epic as in OMG awesomeness! XD

XD I see. That's why I asked. Being german I wasn't sure XD In German there's this difference between an Epos and episch XD

I know what you mean about feeling like you have to read/see everything phantom... I suffer from that... But I refused to read the erotica. I read the reviews and laughed my head off and was able to respectfully bow out of that one. I'm totally a prude in this case hahaha.

Lol! I blame my strange friend, whom I now glance at suspiciously. I actually like WELL WRITTEN, mature romance novels, and this was the first so-called "erotic" novel I've read. Was. Not. Prepared. I now wonder if all "erotic" novels are ridiculously over the top kinky, or if it was just Colette Gale. Certainly, this is one curiosity that I do not intend to pursue.

From what I hear they're all pretty terribly written. But then I don't think their purpose is a telling of a good story...

I lose track of the bigger picture when the smaller details don't make sense. Though I may not be prudish, I seem to set unrealistic standards for even the mundane. And.. AND! Why the FRENCH was Erik Raoul's (and Philippe's, for that matter) half-brother? And why is Erik such a pansy in this book?! I'm gonna go cry while watching LND again. At least that Erik chokes someone... err, Christine that is.. WTF!! Damn it!

Having never read it before, the only explaination I can offer as to Erik's (and it kills me say this) pansy-ness would be that because he was Raoul's half brother he was disheartened in lost his... manliness... or something. I split hairs too... I don't know how some people put up with me haha.

Lmao! Are you suggesting his pansy-ness may be genetic, and that he must have gotten the trait from Raoul's common blood relation? That is an epic explanation!
Save yourself the therapist bills, don't read Unmasqued. I know you said you already wrote it off, but just in case you might ever change your mind. Don't.
On a side note, I'm not sure why people put up with me either... Oh wait! They don't. At least not outside my close friends, and even we need "vacations" now and then so that we don't strangle one another. Hehe..

SPOILER AHEAD: Come to think of it, in Letters to Erik they find out he's a Changy. I now want to know why they want to lace he and Raoul in the same family... And I will file away not to change my mind on reading Unmasked. I don't think that would have ever happened but in the rare case that I go completely insane, it will be in that lovely little filing cabniet with all its useless information. Yay.
